We are looking for detail-oriented Freelance AI Trainers – Audio to support high-impact Generative AI data annotation projects involving PII identification and content risk assessment on raw audio inputs.
In this role, you will listen to and annotate raw audio content to identify personally identifiable information, assess risk signals, evaluate AI-generated outputs where applicable, and apply detailed project guidelines with precision. You will help create high-quality ground truth data used to train and improve advanced AI models.
This is a flexible, freelance engagement suited to individuals who want project-based work rather than a fixed weekly schedule. It requires strong listening comprehension, mature judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment where guidelines may evolve frequently.
Key Responsibilities
As an AI Trainer – Audio, you will:
- Review and annotate raw audio content, including spoken conversations, calls, and other audio recordings.
- Identify, classify, and assess personally identifiable information, sensitive data, and privacy-related risks conveyed through audio.
- Perform risk assessment on audio content involving safety, policy compliance, sensitive topics, and contextual ambiguity.
- Evaluate AI model outputs derived from audio for correctness, completeness, relevance, risk classification, and guideline adherence, where applicable.
- Apply complex, frequently updated annotation guidelines consistently and with sound judgment.
- Handle potentially sensitive, unsafe, or policy-sensitive audio content responsibly and professionally.
- Manage own schedule and task throughput within agreed project deadlines and quality expectations.
- Escalate ambiguous cases, guideline gaps, tooling issues, and edge cases to project leads or quality teams.
- Collaborate remotely with Project Managers, Quality Analysts, and technical teams to improve annotation quality and workflow efficiency.
Required Language Proficiency
Candidates must demonstrate CEFR C1+ equivalent proficiency in their working language (English or the applicable target language). Bilingual proficiency is not required for this role.
Proficiency is required in:
- Listening / Understanding (primary requirement, given the audio-based nature of the task)
- Reading comprehension (for guideline interpretation and task instructions)
- Basic written comCargo (for annotation notes and escalation of edge cases)
The role requires the ability to understand nuanced spoken language, accents, cultural context, idiomatic expressions, policy-sensitive language, and subtle differences in meaning conveyed through audio.
Required Experience
The ideal candidate should have prior hands-on experience in one or more of the following annotation areas:
- PII identification or privacy annotation
- Risk assessment or content safety annotation
- Audio transcript annotation or audio-based data labeling
- Named Entity Recognition or entity classification
- LLM response evaluation
- AI chatbot evaluation
- Policy-based content moderation
- Sensitive content classification
- Gen AI or LLM training data creation
Candidates must have previously worked on annotation projects requiring strict guideline adherence, ambiguity resolution, and quality-focused decision-making.
Skills and Competencies
We are looking for candidates who have:
- Excellent listening comprehension and audio interpretation ability in their working language.
- Strong analytical thinking and decision-making skills.
- A close attention to detail and consistency.
- Ability to interpret complex, evolving guidelines and apply them accurately.
- Comfort working with sensitive, ambiguous, or policy-heavy audio content.
- Strong understanding of tone, context, and language nuance as conveyed through speech.
- Ability to work independently in a remote, flexible-hours setup.
- Familiarity with annotation tools, quality workflows, and productivity tracking.
- Good communication skills for raising clarifications, documenting edge cases, and collaborating with distributed teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, diploma, or equivalent educational qualification preferred.
- Minimum 1–2 years of relevant annotation experience in AI/ML, Gen AI, audio data, content moderation, PII, risk assessment, or related domains.
- Prior experience working on Large Language Model training, evaluation, or data annotation projects is strongly preferred.
- Exposure to audio-based workflows, trust and safety operations, or privacy-focused annotation will be an advantage.
Engagement Terms
- This is a freelance, non-binding engagement — there is no guaranteed or fixed weekly hour commitment on either side.
- Work volume and availability windows will be communicated on a project/task basis, with flexibility for both iMerit and the freelancer to scale up or down.
- Compensation is structured on a per-hour basis, aligned to project pricing terms, rather than a fixed salary.
- Freelancers are expected to maintain agreed quality and turnaround standards for the tasks they accept.
What We Offer
- Flexible, remote freelance opportunity with global project teams.
- Exposure to cutting-edge Gen AI and LLM data annotation projects.
- Opportunity to work on meaningful AI safety, privacy, and model improvement initiatives.
- Structured project guidelines, quality support, and continuous learning opportunities.
- A collaborative environment focused on precision, accountability, and responsible AI development.
Application Note
This role is suitable for candidates who are highly analytical, quality-focused, and comfortable working with complex audio annotation guidelines on a flexible, freelance basis. Bilingual proficiency is not required. Prior experience in PII, risk assessment, audio annotation, or LLM evaluation is essential.
